Summers are full of lazy days with the kids. One of their favorite ways to pass the time -- especially on a hot day -- is to color. But ordinary coloring books seem to lose their charm after a time. Will augmented reality change that?
Kids Devar, a brand of Play with Bookz, has developed a series of very unique coloring books that you can scan with your smartphone or tablet to bring your child's personal creation to life. We were sent a few of these to try out with 3 of our kids. Here is our experience.
1. Download the app. The Kids Devar app is available for iOS or Android. Look for the app in the store, or use the QR code on the back of every coloring book to automatically find it. The app is free!
2. Activate the coloring book. Once you purchase your book, there is a unique code for that book to give you full play permissions.
3. Color. Kids can color one or all of the pages in the book anyway they want!
4. Scan and play. Depending on the book you chose, there are different play features. For the Pirates & Knights book, one of the drawings would shoot arrows after you bring it to life!
The Fairyland Coloring Book told fascinating facts about butterflies, wizards, and more. Simply tap the gem that is revealed on your device screen after scanning each page for fun info!
And the Night Riders 4D Coloring Game allows you to race your own colorings down a busy speedway or even across your kitchen table!
My kids spent all afternoon with their books. I like that, even after they have colored all the pages, the games are still fun to play and engage with. (Note: we used this on an old phone that no longer has service. It didn't have much memory, but had no trouble with the apps! They are very simple and quick to download and install.)
You can find the entire selection of augmented reality coloring and activity books at the official website. You can also find them on Facebook!
Wanna Win? We are giving one lucky reader 2 (two) of these books! To be entered to win, just use the form below by June 11th at 11:59 pm EST. Open to U.S. residents only.
