Do you remember reading your favorite picture books as a kid? With so many pictures to look at and words to learn, they had such a magical way of getting little ones excited to read.
We just learned of another new books series that's sure to delight in a similar way. The HAPPY COUNTY books series is one that parents and kids will love to read together, and it fosters independent curiosity about learning to read, too. Your child will love flipping through the pages and seeing all the neat goings on in Happy County.
There are colorful characters, such as Tina Tusker the County Commissioner, Hannah the Handywoman, and so many more. Kids will see jobs they are familiar with and learn about new industries and professions, too. I especially liked that it shows all kinds of characters doing all kinds of jobs, giving children inspiration to explore skills that interest them and pursue new activities.
Review colors, shapes, and letters, while participating in fun seek-and-find games. This book series is written and illustrated by Ethan Long of the Tasty Time with ZeFronk TV series, as well as the Scribbles & Ink PBS show! The introduction of each of the characters is presented in a type of comic strip format. It's easy for kids to follow along, whether they are sounding out words on their own, or getting help from an adult.
My 9-year-old and 6-year-old read these books together and they chuckled and giggled the entire time. The writing was challenging enough for the older one, but easy for the younger one to understand. This book has quite the range for families of varying ages and is perfect for the homeschool or public school classroom library.
