While we LOVE doughnuts, I couldn't imagine what would happen I discovered a loophole that let me have access to six thousand of them. In the soon-to-be released children's chapter book SIX THOUSAND DOUGHNUTS, that's exactly what happens. Here's more about this upcoming release from author Thomas Tosi and Dooney Press.
First this book is very relatable. We have a big family, and the main character in this book is from a big family. When fifth-grade boy Abe Mitchell does anything in his house, he has to deal with his siblings, parents, and all the chaos that ensues. I really enjoyed how accurate some of the dialogue and interaction were with this family. While the book is a crazy tale of a clever boy that gets into a situation with a lot of doughnuts, the book keeps a tone throughout that I enjoyed because of that big family.
The story addresses all kinds of things that fifth-grades deal with, including crushes. Abe's first crush just happens to be the daughter of a doughnut shop owner -- the same shop that he has discovered how to game the system through a seemingly endless doughnut promotion. As he tries to get more doughnuts, he attracts some negative attention from this girl -- who he just happens to start to like.
You'll have to read the book to see how they resolve this, but the situation gets a little out of control, in a kid-friendly way. The illustrations, done by Meaghan Tosi, add to the quirkiness of this unique book.
