Have You Heard of Eggo Real Fruit Pizza?

Breakfast is one of those meals that I am rarely involved in.  The kids grab cereal and juice, and once in awhile, my husband will make eggs.  Other than that, I'm only in charge of lunch and dinner.  Because of this, breakfast can get BORING!  My son is tired of cereal, he says, and I could try something other than my breakfast bars.

Eggo recently came out with Real Fruit Pizzas in the frozen food section.  These are a really neat idea, in that they are single serving and can be microwaved.  There is a cream cheese topping and REAL fruit and granola over the whole thing.  I loved this product (especially the strawberry one), because I rarely eat enough for breakfast, and then I snack all day.

A few things about this product,:

1.  It is supposed to feed one person, but I easily ate half and was full.  The small kids could split it three ways.

2.  The fruit is real, chunky, and good.  The Fruit Pizzas really impressed me this way (whole blueberries, pieces of strawberry, whole raspberries, etc.)

3.  The pizza microwaved on a special tray that came with the box, but I didn't find it crispy at all.  It was kind of soft, like if you put a bagel in the microwave, but it didn't affect the flavor.

4.  The flavor was naturally sweet -- not TOO sweet, and the cream cheese was fabulous!

Oxy Clinical Gets the Job Done!

My daughter is a tweenager (almost 12), and while I don't want to embarass her -- she is dealing with how to deal with acne.  To spare you details, we had tried about everything.  Everything was either too drying, or caused her acne to get worse. And in the summer months, the heat and humidity wasn't helping.

We had the amazing opportunity to try Oxy Clinical, a new line of product from Oxy that included an entire regimen of skin-care products.  It included an Advanced Face Wash, Clearing Treatment, and Hydrating Therapy.  I took a few minutes to explain to my daughter what each one did, and how to use it.  I then gave her a week to try it!

She plays sports and works outside a lot -- meaning she sweats.  The first day she tried it, she used the wash and commented on how her face felt like there was nothing left on it (dirt) and that it didn't irritate her like some other products have.  She also applied the Clearing Treatment to her hairline (where she has the most problems) and the Hydrating Therapy on the other parts of her face.  We noticed her acne was smaller and less red in just 9 hours after starting the treatment!  The website claims that the Clearing Treatment can start to work in as little as 8 hours, so we credit the quick results to that product.

She has continued to use Oxy Clinical regularly for her entire face, and we have seen improvements.  Her acne isn't completely gone, but that is because we are having to train her not to touch her face (something that is a problem for me, as well.)  With some more practice and regular use of the products, I believe that it is our best chance at fighting acne -- and winning.

For more information on this new offering from Oxy, see the product page at the Oxy website.

Review of HABA Toys for Babies

We've reviewed HABA toys before -- they are really just that great!  And with a new baby in the home, it was only appropriate that we check out some toys designed for the littlest member of the family.  Here are two products that we recently reviewed, and why we grew to love them!

HABA products are lovingly and carefully made in Germany, so they have a unique look about them that you can't get anywhere else!  This is one of the reasons why the sheep blanket (or "Habalinos" as the website calls it) was so neat!  A whimsical and cuddly sheep face adorns this super-soft fleece mini-blanket.  We took this to the hospital when our new son was born, and provided it to him in his bassinet at the hospital.  (It already had my scent on it, so it was comforting to him during his stay!)  It has lots of little knots and places for baby to grab and suck on!
We also enjoyed sharing the discoverer's meadow ball with our baby.  A bit too young to more than look at it, my son did get excited when we showed it to him.  The ball is brightly-colored, soft, and covered in tiny creatures from nature!  My 3-year-old likes to pull this out of the baby's toy box and play with it sometimes, too!  I can tell that this is well-constructed, and will last many years at my house. (When kids outgrow the ball, it will make a perfect hand-me-down toy!)

HABA's quality toy construction makes their products well worth the money.  You can buy them at specialty retailers and online at places like Oompa.com.  Which HABA toy is your favorite?  For more information on the entire line of HABA's new toys, see their website at http://www.habausa.com/

SpongeBob Comes to the Marriott!

If you're a large family (or even if you're not), finding a hotel that accommodates kids can be tricky.  I'm not just talking allowing them in the hotel.  I want a hotel that offers amenities that makes my job as a traveling parent easier.

Marriott has recently teamed up with my kids' favorite cartoon character -- Spongebob -- to offer families a fun stay when they travel!  As part of the Nickelodeon Your Stay program, we sampled a bag of goodies that parents can arrange for kids to receive when staying at these hotels.  My kids were ecstatic to see so many fun Spongebob themed items!

When you book a stay at any of over 2,000 hotels with Marriott brands, you can also "Nickelodeon Your Stay!"  Kids can enjoy free activities to keep them busy during your trip -- isn't that a relief?

Learn more about it, or book a stay online at http://www.nickelodeonyourstay.com/, you can also print out fun goodies from the freebie section of the website!

Bicycle Cards Turns 125!

On any given day, my living room is covered in cards.  Not Pokemon cards.  Not greeting cards.  Bicycle playing cards.  Why?

I have a 6-year-old son who loves making houses out of them.  I can often hear him muttering under his breath when the houses fall and he has to start over.  But he loves them!  Another son likes to play "War" with his sister.  It is one of the simplest games a small child can play, and the games seem to last forever!

Bicycle has made it very easy to teach your kids how to play with cards.  Their website has a tool that lets you search for the directions for most any card game -- along with illustrations -- so if you haven't played Solitaire or Hearts in a while, you can brush up in no time.

The cards are becoming popular enough to warrant coupons in the Sunday paper (I saw them not too long ago), and stores are bringing the Bicycle brand back to shelves where cartoon character cards used to sit.  I like that they are simple to read, and that the kids can count on them to all look the same when playing with multiple decks!

In celebration of their milestone achievement (125 years), Bicycle is giving away some pretty neat prizes in an instant win game. You can check it out until 12/31/2010! And don't forget to learn about all their card play instructions at www.bicyclecards.com

Do you have memories of playing cards as a kid?  What about playing them now?  They have been a great way to spend a few minutes with my kids when a busy life could easily keep me from connecting with them!

More Blinds Recalled and Parents Magazine Update!

There has been a number of blinds recalled due to strangulation hazards.  If you are not following them, here is the most recent one.

As an added, personal note, our younger son was almost killed when he became entangled in some cord blinds many years ago.  Our story has been published in the recent issue of Parents magazine.  Thankfully, our then 4-year-old son came to the rescue, and our son suffered no permanent injuries.

We recommend that you take a moment to check your home (and the homes that you visit) for any window coverings that may have been recalled or could cause danger to your children.

Review of Garanimals Clothing for Kids and Infants

Summer is far from over, and many families may find themselves in need of a few more basic clothing items to get their kids through these last few weeks (and perhaps to start a sunny school year!)  As an adult who remembers Garanimals from my childhood, I was excited to try out a few outfits for my own kids.

Perhaps the biggest perk to the Garanimals clothing line (besides the fact that they are UBER-affordable and fit any budget) is that they match.  Seriously.  Every piece with a given color (blue, for example) matches every other piece in the seasonal line with the same color.  You can buy several shirts, shorts, or skirts and then have your kid pick out a top and bottom from their drawers for the day -- and they can never go wrong.  This means kids can be independent and look good, without hassle from Mom or Dad!

I also love how easy these items are to care for.  My 5-year-old loves his blue striped t-shirt and athletic shorts.  They are a super-bright blue that matches his eyes, and when he recently doused the entire outfit in BBQ sauce, I was able to apply a stain treater and get everything out -- no problemo!  (They also keep their bright colors through many washings.)

You've probably seen the Garanimals line at Walmart and wondered how they can be of such high quality -- since they are so inexpensive.  Well, this company has been giving families a budget-friendly clothing option for a long time, and they do it well!

You can see the entire line of clothing for the summer at Garanimals.com -- and order online through Walmart.com!

*Sample outfits were received for this review.  Opinions are 100% my own.

My Living Stories Brings Books to Life!

I only have one app on my phone that's geared towards kids.  It think it is because I've tried to stay away from having my kids think of my precious iPhone as a toy -- instead of a tool that Mommy needs to work.  I'll admit to really being drawn into the idea of My Living Stories, however, so we decided to give them a try!

These neat "stories" are animated tales that kids can watch and follow along with on your iPhone or iTouch.  Familiar fables, like Little Red Riding Hood, for example, are narrated in English, or you can let you child do the reading.  The fun sound effects and characters really keep little ones entertained.  It's perfect for waiting outside a doctor's office, or anywhere else that your child needs a little fun to keep them out of trouble.

One super feature of these stories is the ability to record your own voice reading the stories.  Isn't that cool?  All you need is a microphone capability, and you can have the stories play for your child with Mommy or Daddy's voice.  What kid wouldn't want to read these stories again and again?  (Just in case they get bored of a title, there are a total of 5 different stories to choose from:  Princess & the Pea, King Midas, The Tortoise & the Hare, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears)

All of the titles are available via the iTunes stores for instant download to your iPhone or iTouch!

Wanna Win? We are giving away a $25 iTunes GC to one lucky reader!  Simply leave a comment on this post telling us which My Living Stories you'd like the most.  You have until August 2nd at 11:59 am CST to get your entries in.  (Be sure to give us a way to reach you if you win, and remember that we will never use your email or contact info for anything other than to send your prize.) Good luck, and be sure to check out all of our other giveawaysNote: This giveaway is open to Canadians and U.S. ages 18+.  You may enter on multiple blogs offering the same prize, but you are only eligible to win one iTunes gift card as part of the My Living Stories promotional tour.

Disclosure - I am participating in the My Living Stories program by Mom Central on behalf of Decode Entertainment. I received 3 free apps and a gift card as a thank you for my participation.

Review of Lady and Men's Speed Stick with Stain Guard

It's that time of year.. sticky.  Sweaty. Stinky.

My husband comes in from working outside in a heat index of 115+ and I just want to run away.  He is really sweaty when he gets in!  We have tried so many deodorants over the years, and he either doesn't like the protection or I hate the odor. (Some of them actually smell MORE like sweat than his sweat alone.)

We tried the new line of Speed Stick for both Ladies and Men.  I was already a Lady Speed Stick fan, both for it's adequate protection and it's super price. (I can always get it on sale with a coupon and pay little to nothing!)  My hubby had tried the Men's version, as well, but it wasn't something we really talked about much.  I mean, who discusses these things with their spouse, anyway?

After allowing him to try the new Men's Speed Stick with Stain Guard for a week, he told me how he really enjoyed how dry it kept him -- which is a big deal.  He usually tells me that he hates a new brand, and tosses it in the trash.  (He's picky that way.)  What I loved was how GOOD he smelled, even after working all day.  This stuff just makes your man pleasant.  As far as the stain guarding goes.. I guess it works?  He never really got too sweaty, so his shirts stayed drier, and I'm assuming that is where some of the stain guard protection comes in.  In any case, we appreciated how well it worked.

I also enjoyed the Ladies' version, but I kind of expected I would (I was already a fan, remember?)  For those hot days when you want to stay dry AND protect your shirts from stains, this is a product we will recommend for the ladies and the men.  For more information, visit the Lady Speed Stick site (where you can print a 75cent off coupon) and Men's Speed Stick Site.  Both items are available in retailers near you and Amazon.com.

*Samples of both products were received to review.  Opinions are 100% my own.

Do Soap Nuts Really Work?

Laundry is a never-ending battle at our house.  It seems that just as I'm getting to the stinky bottom of our hamper, someone gets sick and throws up all over the place -- leading to more laundry.  (Or, the dog chews up a carrot on my bedspread, or the bathtub overflows.)  In any case, there is basically no "ground zero" for our washing, and as a result, we try many products in the laundry genre.

(Soapnut shells by gadl via Flickr)

Last year, I bought a few packages of soap nuts, along with some essential oils to try them out as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional soap.  Did they work?  Yes... I think.  I know that my clothes got clean, and there was even the same amount of soapy residue in my clothes as usual when done washing (I know this from the water that came out of my Spin Dryer when drying.)  I can't,  however, prove that the cleanliness was from the nut itself, or more as a result of the soap that may have already been left in my clothes.  I could tell that the nut got "used up" after several loads, which leads me to believe that they are more powerful at the beginning of their lifespan AND if the stuff that comes out of them cleans at all.. they probably do what they say.

A bit spendy for a small package, one could buy a bulk bag and do a modest amount of laundry on a tight budget.  Doing 3-4 loads a day, however, may be a bit much in the spending department.  I would recommend using them the maximum amount of washings you can (squeeze them to see if they have any life left after each load) and buy the essential oils used to "scent" the load from a wholesaler and not the retailers that actually sell the soap nuts.  (They tend to charge more.)

We abandoned the regular use of soap nuts soon after we tried them.  They worked OK, but we really just couldn't afford to keep using them (and my husband's work clothes and the boys play things need EXTRA soap that just wasn't budget-friendly on the soap nut plan.)

What has your experience been with these clever little nuts?
